Building & Grounds Committee Meeting Highlights
Date: April 30, 2011
Date: Feb. 19, 2011
Presently our committee is discussing:
- The parish office has been relocated to the nursery room in the parish center; this will allow handicap accessible access to all parishioners. Ron Kobishop, Father Jerzy, and Tim Kaczmarek met with the picnic general chairs, the country store chairs and the condiment serving chairs. The parish picnic country store chair people, along with the Picnic general chairs, decided to use the conference room for the country store this year. The condiments & coffee will be served out of one of the center's break out rooms.
- Mike Kaczmarek followed up by giving Ron a quote that he got from Alchemy Concrete, Inc. out of Nelsonville to replace the front steps of the church for a possible future Capital Campaign project.
- Steve Glodowski mentioned at the December meeting that the south side rectory porch is still leaking. Further investigation shows that this project needs to be addressed this year (further postponing would mean catastrophic damage). Roof replacement along with bricking up part of the old second story doorway and replacing it with a window would cost approximately $2500. The recommendation of the committee is to move forward with this project soon.
- Other non capital small scale projects that the committee would like to address in the coming year are: Replace the worn out carpet in the 2 year olds room in school. This will require asbestos abatement of the loose floor tile. Approximate cost: $4,800; Repair water spots on church ceiling, replace track lighting in choir loft and patch the crack on the wall behind the St. Joseph statue. Approximate cost: $1200; Clean church lights, speakers, & ceiling fan blades. No cost, volunteer labor.

Presently our committee is discussing:
- The parish office will be relocated to the nursery room in the parish center; this will allow handicap accessible access to all parishioners. This move will take place in the next several weeks. The parish picnic country store will need a new area to set up in. Some possibilities are moving under the tent with the cherry tree, or into one of the breakout rooms in the center.
- The carpeting in the upstairs SE room of the rectory is soiled beyond cleaning and needs to be replaced as well as the upstairs hallway carpeting. Even the professional cleaners could not get them clean, one possibility is to remove the dining room carpet and install it in the room upstairs. The dining room hardwood floor would then be sanded and refinished.
- The dining room is showing signs of deterioration (water stained ceiling, wallpaper peeling, and trim chipped). Estimates will be obtained on what it would cost to repaint the dining room. New curtains are being made by a parishioner for Father Jerzy.
- Father told us about his vision for committees working together by having a subcommittee formed with several members from building and ground, finance, sacred worship, etc. This committee could be called a "renovation committee" for example.
